I compared Electric Teal to Turned up Turquoise and Sinful Rise and Shine, but I don't think I ever wore this on its own, so I'm still tagging this "indecision clouds my vision".
Actually I've been doing a LOT of knitting, and frequent polish changes and knitting don't really get along.

Anyway, here is my St Patrick's Day nails. I think the Color Club is "tried" - everything else is untried, and yes, I've had Pretty Edgy since I did that comparison WAY back at the beginning of this blog and it was STILL sitting in my untried drawer.

Yes, that's a lot of coats, but I don't mind because this came out way better than I hoped it would. Pretty Edgy applied flawlessly. It was a tiny bit dustier than I expected, actually - I don't know if I'm just remembering it wrong, or it's changed slightly as it's been sitting untouched. Anyway, I knew I was glittering it up, so no big deal. Pretty Edgy was almost totally opaque in three coats.

Green With Envy has a very slightly green tinted base, or maybe the glitter is leaching out into the base a little. Whatever the cause, the end result was that it added just the perfect amount of yellow to Pretty Edge, making it the perfect St Patrick's Day green. It's a fairly chunky glitter - medium hex pieces, and a few tiny glitters, and of course I had trouble getting even distribution. So when I finished applying I wasn't totally happy with it, so I pulled out...

Object of Envy. I've worn this before and I think I felt like three coats would be reasonably opaque on its own. Anyway, I applied one coat over everything and it's PERFECT. The only thing I would do differently next year (and oh yeah, I'm definitely wearing this again) is apply Object of Envy before Green With Envy, so that the bigger glitter shines more.

Funny thing about these photos: When I was taking them, I was having trouble capturing the pink/rose color of this polish, but when I went to edit them I saw that even though all I could see was the green, all I got in the photos is the rose.

Anyway, this is a pretty thin and runny polish. It was fairly sheer - I needed four coats and I still have a bit of VNL. To be honest, I don't feel like this is a very exciting color, so I added a coat of the gold Northern Lights holo topcoat, and it didn't really help.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-38975053356590217532012-02-23T19:00:00.000-06:002012-02-23T19:00:00.154-06:00OPI - Meep-Meep-MeepMeep-Meep-Meep is a pinkish red glass fleck. I like this OK. It doesn't totally wow me, and it actually reads red a lot of the time, which I'm not a huge fan of. Here's another one of those "I waited as long as I could to take pictures" posts. This is on the fourth day of wear, and I'd been doing dishes the day before, so I have some pretty good chips and tip wear.
I loved this color a lot more than I expected to.
Even though I have a hate for visible nail line, I really like this. Also, my cuticles are super scary in these photos - our weather's been mostly overcast, and I keep waiting for sun to take photos and it never shows up, so I end up giving up and taking photos in the morning.

Anyway, about the only thing I would have changed about this polish is that I would have gone for white or opalescent glitter instead of silver. The glitter on the bottom two layers looks awesome, but the silver glitter in the top layer just looks weird and umatching.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-38320099819122929702012-02-15T19:00:00.000-06:002012-02-15T19:00:02.020-06:00Zoya - Veruschka

I do not know why this is, but I feel like the matte velvet Zoyas always have amazing application, and the straight matte polishes are awful.
This polish was a little bit thin and runny. I had some bald-ish spots after three coats so I went for a fourth. Other than that, though, application was pretty good and cleanup was surprsingly easy for this much sparkle.

Initially I was disappointed in the lack of duochrome. Then I went into another room that had no lights on (to pet the cat) and whoa!

Excuse the rough-looking fingers and cuticles - I'm almost midway through knitting a large blanket from super chunky 100% wool.

Let me start with the good, no - the great. The base is perfect. It is opaque enough to cover, and sheer enough that you don't lose any of the glitter, even at three coats - the glitter is way obvious even in inside light.

Now for the not so good: Application was AWFUL. Easily one of the worst polishes I've ever worn. I don't know if it's the consistency of the polish (thick and a bit gritty), or the long-bristled brush (that I normally adore), but I could not control this, at ALL. I really had to glop it on to make sure I got coverage where I needed it. Maybe it's the combination of the brush and the consistency. I don't know. Needless to say, this went everywhere, and while the base color cleaned up easily I am still picking glitter off (I'm writing this before I take photos).

I actually looked through my stash and ruled out some Nubar glitters because I didn't want to deal with the layers of topcoat. I figured Black Knight wouldn't have this issue, but surprise - it so did. It was so gritty after just one coat that I knew I'd have to pull out the Gelous.

I think I will try this again, but over black. I'll try not to get my hopes up.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-44182862211231945852012-02-03T19:00:00.000-06:002012-02-03T19:00:00.499-06:00Color Club - Nomadic in Nude

However, these photos are literally the only place where it doesn't read as red. So disappointed. I was hoping this would be my go-to pedi color, but once it's applied... I had to try to get it to show as pink, and the huge majority of the time it just read as red. Too bad.

Application was good, no problems with cleanup. Minimal stainy-ness on the cuticles, even though this is a pretty pigmented polish. I do want to note that there is a bit of VNL, both in photos and in real life, which is a shame. I actually think it's a little more evident in real life.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-92147646479273616962012-01-30T19:00:00.000-06:002012-01-30T19:00:01.744-06:00Color Club - Hot Like LavaYep, another "NO TIME!" foil. This is the hot pink from the Foiled collection. (I'm wearing the paler pink on my toes - weather suddenly got really warm - like sandals weather - and this is my first pedi of the season. This was my first experience with Models Own. It took over a month to arrive - it was so long that I scoured other nail blogs to see how long theirs had taken to arrive. I got the impression that bigger blogs got faster shipping, which frankly turns me off of ordering from Models Own again.

Anyway, Aqua Violet is pretty much just what it says - an aqua/violet duochrome. It was pretty sheer on my nail wheel swatch, so I layered it over Wet N Wild Black Creme.

I took a ton of photos trying to capture the purple here, but I couldn't do it. I'll try again later in the day or I might try at night to see if that helps.

Anyway, the application was pretty good - it was a little bit soupy but not too bad at all. I do have a little bit of bubbling that's not visible in the photos (and hardly visible in real life), but I'm not sure I blame the polish - I know I applied with too much polish on my brush a couple of times. This polish is a little bit brush-stroke-y but not enough to really bother me.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-34300094816373928832012-01-26T19:00:00.000-06:002012-01-26T19:00:03.062-06:00China Glaze - LOLHere's an oldie but goodie. I was just recovering from being basically in bed sick for an entire week, but my mom wanted to go do some shopping. My darling husband graciously allowed it on the condition that he drive me to meet my mom and pick me up (what actually happened: He drove me, halfway through he met us at the mall and carried all our bags, then drove me home). Anyway, I still felt awful, and purple is my mom's favorite color, so I picked this out of my stash.
I adore this combination.

Road House Blues was beautiful on its own, and applied well even though I still hate the Pro Wide brush. I might have tried to be too careful, which explains the HUGE gap at the cuticle of my ring finger. This would definitely be a two coater on its own.

Twisted is AMAZING. I picked up both Twisted and Asylum from this collection (I have almost all of the Nfu Oh flakes, so I didn't feel like I needed the others). I did need two coats of Twisted for this density of flakes, but this polish isn't all thick and goopy like some other flake topcoats can be.

If you don't have it yet, you need Twisted.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-50999796484192910752012-01-22T19:00:00.000-06:002012-01-22T19:00:03.798-06:00Orly - OuiI really love these Orly polishes. Oui is a purple with lots of gold shimmer. Oui is a little bit bluer of a purple than some of the other light purples-with-gold-shimmer we've seen.
The weather was awful when I wore this, so on the fourth day of wear I broke down and took photos under desk light.

I did need to use four coats for this - it was a tiny bit sheerer than I was expecting. However, application was awesome as usual for an Orly polish. I do have a little bit of tip wear in the photos, but again - this was on the fourth full day of wear (and I'm almost certain I'd already peeled off the polish from all the other fingers, too - yes, I know it's terrible)Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-88790430835319384292012-01-20T19:00:00.000-06:002012-01-20T19:00:01.147-06:00Nina Ultra Pro - GlamrockYes, I'm behind again - I have a few actual NOTDs (not swatches) piled up - I had some major dental work done a couple of weeks ago, which was followed immediately (as in, the next day) by an awful cold/flu thing that knocked me out of commission until just recently. And, when that all happened I was *already* behind. Oh well.

Also, today I painted my toenails, which I usually don't do in the winter - but it's a weird winter in Texas. Today it's about 80 degrees outside, and I'm wearing sandals when I go out tonight. I'm kind of afraid of what this will mean for summer.
How hot is that? This was surprisingly opaque and easy to apply. I love this polish a lot - everything about the application was awesome. The finished texture wasn't very rough either - I probably could have stood to do a layer of Gelous before my topcoat but it didn't really bug me.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-41407562366228945462012-01-02T19:00:00.000-06:002012-01-02T19:00:00.739-06:00Color Club - Cold MetalThis might be my favorite of the Foiled polishes, but I really love them all.
I probably could have stopped with one coat, to be honest - it was totally opaque then. I added a second coat to see if it would enhance the awesome glowy blue, but it doesn't really. So: this is a one-coater. Because it's so opaque, cleanup is a bit of a biatch. I love the Color Club brush and I'm good at controlling it, so I didn't have a lot of cleanup, but in the third photo you can see where it's stained my skin some. Normally I would wait and take photos tomorrow in this case. However, I picked a foil because I needed it to dry super fast so I could resume knitting, so I'm sure this will be totally trashed in the next couple of hours.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-34547475543197680822011-12-31T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-31T19:00:04.708-06:00Orly - Rock SolidI'm not very sure how to describe this polish - it's an odd one, for sure. My best guess is a charcoal Mineral FX-like sparkle, with a bunch of holographic glitter pieces.

See what I mean? Anyway, application was really good - my brush tended to get a whole lot of polish on it, but as long as I was careful to wipe off any excess, it wasn't a problem. Consistency was fine, and cleanup went a lot better than I expected it to. I have a couple of bare spots but it's not really noticeable, either in photos or in real life.

I believe NYC Grand Central Station is really a clear quick-dry polish as opposed to a topcoat, but it's been getting rave reviews as a topcoat, so I decided to try it. Dry time is very nice - not as fast as Seche but just fine, and it's reasonably shiny. My manicure still has a little bit of texture to it, but I'm not blaming my topcoat for it - I used a not-smooth base coat, and this polish has a lot of glitter. It's still an acceptable texture - not anything like the Nubar Sparkles - and although I think a Gelous topcoat sandwich would work here, I just don't been like it's necessary.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-3703997331759542902011-12-29T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-29T19:00:01.923-06:00Orly - Au Champagne, China Glaze - Party HeartyThis combination came out very similar to my last year's Christmas manicure, but I don't care. Last year I used China Glaze Frosty with Wet N Wild French White as underwear, but I like this combination better.

Au Champagne is a pretty, shimmery opaque white. It's a little softer than a straight white. It dries to a satin finish, which I thought was interesting, but I also think that's why it applied so nicely. I had zero problems with it.

I might as well have skipped the holo topcoat altogether, because the sun has not been out - at all - until this morning, and these photos were taken yesterday with already four full days of wear (see tip wear if you embiggen).Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-76314593865024219542011-12-27T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-27T19:00:02.411-06:00China Glaze - Glittering Garland and Snow GlobeI actually forgot I had worn this until I was editing photos of the last mani I wore. See? Super pretty, just not sure they go together. I test swatched a few combinations and ultimately decided on this one for some reason - I should have gone with the gold Northern Lights topcoat instead. Oh well.

I've seen photos of Glittering Garland that look very different from my bottle - mine just looks like a plain dark green with glass fleck. It's very pretty but it's not the outright glitter I've seen photos of. Application was pretty good, and I didn't have any problems with cleanup.

My bottle of Snow Globe is from the initial release with all the other specialty glitters. As a result, it was super thick and I had to thin it a lot, but it was still pretty thick. I have a little bit of tip shrinkage, too.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-66056403877144375242011-12-19T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-19T19:00:00.214-06:00Missha - JBL01Today I have a new-to-me brand to show you: Missha. This is a GORGEOUS polish. These photos don't even remotely do this polish justice. It has both blue and green glass flecks in it, which makes it look almost like a duochrome in low light. I only needed two coats for full opacity. Cleanup was a real bitch, though, for a couple of reasons.

First, this is the bottle from the top down. Yes, the whole cap is shaped like this. It is a little awkward to hold at first, but there's a specific position that feels more comfortable to hold. This alone wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for the second issue:

This is the fattest brush I have ever used. The Missha brush is the darker blue, the other one is a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. The Missha brush is wide, flat, and square. At least with Insta-Dri brush the edges are curved, so you can learn to get along with it. But because you can only really comfortably hold the Missha cap in one position, it's very hard to not get polish everywhere - which is exactly what I did.

I am not sure I have anything even close to this polish in my collection - I am glad I bought it!

I have one more Missha polish coming up, and one Skin Food polish. I also bought all of the Guppy Sanding Fruit Extract polishes (one broke in transit) - I like them much more than I thought even though they smell terrible. Those will also be coming up eventually.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-20351803844288095072011-12-16T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-16T19:00:00.091-06:00Orly - Fowl PlayYep, slacking again. Anyway, today I have on Orly "Fowl Play". Fowl Play is very similar to OPI Merry Midnight, but Fowl Play is a little bit darker. I own both, but the comparison's been done a million times - I'm not going to repeat it now even though it's been months since everyone was wearing it :)
Look at those rainbow shimmery flakes! Too bad they aren't as magical on the nail as they are in the bottle. Still, this is really pretty and I think I like the base color of Fowl Play a bit more than Merry Midnight - it seems a little less muddy.

Application was pretty good - not very runny at all. It was opaquer than I was expecting it to be based on everyone else's posts, but I still ended up needing four coats. It didn't try totally smooth, but one coat of David topcoat fixed it right up.
Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-55717263244729341332011-12-12T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-12T19:00:03.684-06:00Revlon - Facets of FuchsiaFacets of Fuchsia is a black jelly with fuchsia glitter - both regular sized glitter and larger hex glitter.

Sorry for the crap photos - the weather was awful and foggy the day I took these, so I had to resort to my desk light.

Facets applied very nicely - of course I had the super opaque Black Creme underneath, so it was pretty forgiving. I didn't have much issue with glitter placement - I only had to push one big hex off the edge of my nail. It wasn't thick or gloppy, either.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3894456424896720271.post-49263057431950611542011-12-10T19:00:00.000-06:002011-12-10T19:00:00.950-06:00OPI - Tease-y Does ItHere's a polish I've worn before, but I needed something sort of conservative. I was originally planning to wear Pepe's Purple Passion, but I absolutely hated it once I started applying it. So, back to Tease-y Does It.
Do not be fooled by that tiny bit of green flash in the last photo - that is so not visible on the nail, and not in the bottle either.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10645734002489034984noreply@blogger.com0
